Versus is a recurring boss from Thunder Force IV, appearing as the boss in the fifth stage and as a midboss in the final stage.

Details

Versus appears as a large mecha controlled by Faust, the main antagonist of the game. When it first appears, it singlehandedly wipes out the otherwise-indestructible Cerberus II. On the first fight Versus is indestructible, firing a series of lasers in various directions, which will destroy the six Styx fighters that are aiding the Rynex. All the player has to do is avoid the lasers until the boss retreats.

On the rematch in the last stage Versus fights in front of a gigantic cannon. It will constantly shoot bullet spreads, frontal lasers, bending lasers and homing missiles, but at specific intervals it leaves the screen, as the cannon behind him fires a huge energy blast. Once it reaches the cannon it will enter inside it while two metallic orbs create a electric field between them and rotate around the screen. Instead of attacking the boss directly, the player must instead target the cannon; after taking enough damage it explodes, taking Versus down with it.
