The RVR-00 "Phoenix" (RVR-00 フェニックス, RVR-00 Fenikkusu^?) is one of the playable ships from Thunder Force VI. It is the third model in the RVR series, and the first RVR created with Refined Vasteel Technology.

Despite its model number, it is actually more advanced than the RVR-01 "Gauntlet" and RVR-02 "Vambrace". Though having a corresponding Brigandine module made for it, the Phoenix does not need it to achieve orbit from any planetary atmosphere, thus making it the first in the RVR series that is truly an aerospace fighter.

History

Thunder Force VI

When the ORN Empire begins an invasion against Earth, humans uncover the remnants of the original Vasteel technology from the battle against the Guardian A.I., including that of the once-mighty Rynex. From this technology, and a recent message for help from the Galaxy Federation, the humans form an alliance with the Federation in an attempt to bring an end to the ORN Empire once and for all. They use a refined version of the original Vasteel Technology to construct a new powerful starfighter to combat the omnicidal forces of ORN, that starfighter being the RVR-00 "Phoenix". The pilot is first known as "C=CTNs=C", a new regulatory clone of Cenes Crawford.

The Phoenix eventually succeeds in a battle against ORN Faust/Vasteel Nocht but ends up undergoing a major transformation by absorbing ORN Faust's core, creating a technological hybrid fighter ship known as the Syrinx.

Weaponry

• Twin Shot/Sword: The signature weapon from Thunder Force series. The Sword Over Weapon is powerful than it was in the previous game and can destroy enemies with high defense easily.
• Back Shot/Chain Blast: Fires a 4-way shot backwards and its Chain Blast Over Weapon fires five lasers (two backwards, two to the sides and one from the front), one less than the one used by RVR-02B "Brigandine".
• Wave Shot/Triple Wave: Fires three wave shots that can reach enemies surrounding the area and can pass through solid walls. The Triple Wave Over Weapon fire a straight Wave laser, but it cannot destroy highly defensive enemies.
• Free Range/Aiming Shock: This weapon can lock and fire automatically by pressing the shot button. The Aiming Shock Over Weapon fires a sparking laser that can be locked on a enemy doing the same process.
• Hunter/Spread Needle: The homing weapon which first appeared in Thunder Force II. Fires rapid-firing, three-way energy balls that target all enemies on the screen. The Spread Needle Over Weapon does the same, but unlike its normal version, it is more powerful. It should be noted that the Over Weapon is different from its predecessors (Gauntlet/Vambrace uses laser-like needles aimed at a particular target instead).

Navigation System

Unlike the Gauntlet or Vambrace, the Phoenix doesn't use the REFFI program. Instead, it uses the Guardian's Heart as both its AI and Navigation System. All activity signals coming from the Guardian's Heart can be monitored by an app called TriangleScope. Another technology bundled on the RVR is IMPORT, however its purpose is unknown.

Trivia

• Its numeration as RVR-00 is a reference to the RVR program's new beginning using Refined Vasteel Technology rather than the original Vasteel Technology used on the RVR-01 and RVR-02.
• Phoenix is the first and only RVR that doesn't have a Photon Rifle of its own, making it "Vasteel accurate" if it is compared with Rynex.
• Phoenix is the third ship in the series to be upgraded or undergo an transformation. Unlike Rynex or Gauntlet, which were upgraded by equipping the Thunder CLAW control unit (Rynex) and merging with the RVR-02B Brigandine (Gauntlet) then subsquently converted into the RVR-02 Vambrace, respectively, Phoenix has evolved to Syrinx by fusing with ORN Faust's core and is the first RVR to transform into a Fire LEO-like ship.
