The Phoenix Brigandine is an equipment unit featured only in the introduction sequence of and the Phoenix "Take Off" cutscene in Thunder Force VI.
Similar to its predecessor, the RVR-02B "Brigandine", it is an Extra Body Equipment to enhance the normal capabilities of an RVR. At its core is a new RVR created at the same time, the RVR-00 "Phoenix". However, unlike the original RVR-02B, since the RVR-00 is capable of reaching space without the use of a Brigandine, the Phoenix Brigandine is more or less meant to provide extra firepower.
It is also comprised of two Sub Units, making it a two-stage Brigandine. The Sub Unit B-Parts, when detached, can fire a deadly barrage of shrapnel missiles to inflict massage damage against enemy forces. The A-Parts provides the RVR-00 with a Warp Engine, a Photon Rifle, and an Enhanced Radar Dish, the last two are carried on by the RVR-00 after detaching from the A-Parts.
Similar to its predecessor, the Phoenix Brigandine is capable of using the Sword (via the Photon Rifle) and Chain Blast Over Weapons.
Curiosities[]
- The Phoenix Brigandine is the only Brigandine unit that is not playable.
- The reason why the Phoenix Brigandine is unplayable in Thunder Force VI is because of its large size. If the single stage RVR-02B was already an easy target due to its large size, just think of how hard it would be for the player to fly a ship almost a third of the screen long.
